Zamalek SC of the BAL has signed Matthew Bryan-Amaning. He is a 31-year old power forward from the United Kingdom who last played for the Surrey Scorchers in the British Basketball League (BBL).
On their website the BBL team Surrey Scorchers announced their star player is leaving. In his five games with the team he scored 17 points on average. He is also a member of the Great Brittain national team.
“My next step is the new Basketball Africa League, sponsored and organised by the NBA. I got the opportunity through Luol Deng, the league ambassador, and Dzaflo Larkai, both former Brixton Topcats players and obviously two big time professionals. The opportunity was one I couldn’t turn down as its in the inaugural season and always good to get in at the beginning. I will join the team from Egypt called Zamalek and can’t wait to play in my fathers home nation.”Matthew Bryan-Amaning talking on the Surrey Scorchers website
Matthew’s father was born in Ghana. Because of this, he is eligible as an “African import” (there are only a maximum of 2 non-African players allowed). He will now play in the first Basketball Africa League season, as Zamalek will play in the Nile Conference.
